A Ton of Anime Updates Landed During the Holidays

The Christmas holidays provide a plethora of activities far superior than catching up on the headlines: discovering surprises, feasting on festive fare, and employing meditation skills to refrain from yelling at family members. I hope you managed to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling news items surfaced over the holidays, and just in case you didn't see any, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Without a doubt the most shocking revelation, the widely-criticized controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt further production. Season 3 will be back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they might as well have called it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. But, the key visual for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, nowadays, they must be teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now the community is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio famous for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the release of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has not yet been announced.
