Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
