Diane Ladd, Celebrated For Her Performance in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Passes Away at 89 Years Old.

This Academy Award-nominated performer Diane Ladd, a Hollywood veteran passed away at the age of 89.

This actress, whose filmography featured National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, died at her home in California’s Ojai. Her passing was revealed through a message from her daughter, Oscar-winning actor Laura Dern.

Her daughter, who performed alongside Diane Ladd in a number of films including Rambling Rose, called her “my wonderful hero and my precious gift of a mother”, writing that she was present during her final moments.

“She was the greatest grandmother, mother, daughter, star, artist along with compassionate soul that felt like a dream come true,” she stated. “We were blessed to have her. Her spirit soars with angels.”

Early Career and Breakthrough

The start of her career saw small roles on television series including The Fugitive whereas the seventies featured her performing next to Jack Nicholson in the classic Chinatown.

That very year, the year 1974, she shared the screen with actress Ellen Burstyn in the Martin Scorsese celebrated film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Her role earned Ladd her first Oscar nomination in the supporting actress category.

Later Decades

Writing and Directing
