The Hit Drama Announced for 7th Series on BBC

Line of Duty cast members
Vicky McClure are set to reprise their roles in the popular crime series

The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the BBC.

An upcoming six-part series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the production team.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."

The last season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only came recently.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle misconduct within the police force.

Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."

New Character and Intricate Plot

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.

However, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, the teaser hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."

"We're privileged to have had countless followers watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh installment."

Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston described being part of the series as "the role of a career".

"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."

"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.

The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"

Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."

"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."

Show History

Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.

The BBC haven't revealed when the upcoming series will hit screens.

The finale of season six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the network confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
