Tottenham Manager Frank Calls Goalkeeper Booers 'Not Real Fans'
Fulham Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Tension on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "those individuals can't be true Spurs fans" by manager Thomas Frank.
Spurs let in a pair of goals in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th Premier League home defeat of 2025.
However the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' second goal when the keeper lost the ball well outside his area.
He ventured out to handle a long ball and took the ball near the sideline.
But, instead of booting it out of play, the Italian spun and tried to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the sideline measured at 36.6 metres.
Moments afterwards when the ball went to Vicario again, a number of Tottenham fans jeered him.
The team were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.
One of those booing sessions truly irritated the manager.
"It came to my attention some of our fans apparently booed the incident and jeered following, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager stated about the supporters' response to his shot-stopper.
"[They] can't be real Tottenham supporters that act that way. Alright booing following the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are with each other moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had given the visitors a early advantage before Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second period showing.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Hart stated that the second score was "totally avoidable".
"I do understand the fans' disappointment," the ex-keeper added. "I know the part the keeper is performing. He is a great team player, he's a real figure in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your actions.
"The keeper was heavily involved in what ended up to be the decisive score."
'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Match
Italian national team Vicario is in his 3rd campaign with Spurs.
He stated after the game that he had to accept the feedback.
"That score was a error of mine, I accept responsibility for that," he said.
"My aim was to kick the ball far and I just hit the ball in a poor way. That made an even bigger mountain to overcome."
He stated receiving jeers "is part of football".
"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he added. "The team cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the right to do what they think.
"It's on us to stay increasingly composed, to concentrate on ourselves. We are missing in calmness and calmness to overturn results. Today is a poor defeat and it's tough to take."
'I Was Surprised Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'
In spite of the keeper's error, it was not an easy goal for Harry Wilson to score.
Actually it was the second longest-range top division score of the campaign – following Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly also occurred on Saturday.
Wilson said he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.
10 seconds elapsed between Vicario coming out of his area and the midfielder shooting – which was five moments following the kick.
"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the area for a long time," Wilson said.
"It amazed me not one of the defenders went back to the line. When none of them defended the net, my interest lit up somewhat.
"Udogie fell too, which allowed me a bit of extra time. After that it was solely about attempting to achieve the right connection and place it on target. I had a positive sense, as soon as it came off my foot, that it was on the right line."
'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Go Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank
Although the keeper's mistake dominated headlines, this was an all-round poor performance for Tottenham to continue their home ground woes.
The match was their tenth at home loss of the year in the league, a shared club statistic along with 1994 and two thousand and three.
The side still have home games against the manager's former club the Bees and title holders the Reds to come before the end of the year.
Only one of those victories have come since Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.
"If you are down 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to climb," said Frank.
"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects seems to work against you too – the opening was a redirected attempt, the next is a error from Vic.
"This result leaves us in a position where we have suffered another game. Every game has a unique story, today we were defeated in the early stages.
"We just need to continue striving. The second half was much better and with luck an aspect we can utilize to learn."
Tottenham have lost 4 straight at home London derbies for the first time in the top division.
And they are averaging nine point five shots and three point two efforts on goal per match in the Premier League – their poorest rates on file in a one season (since at least 2003-04).
Former Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy stated that Frank has to endure the criticism.
"He's got accept the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He has accepted a high profile job at a major football club with enormous expectation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.
"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
